Want to get out into nature?

Blackwater Falls State Park

Blackwater Falls State Park boasts many waterfalls (including its namesake 57 ft cascade of dark tannic water) and scenic overlooks that are some of the most photographed sites in all of West Virginia - like Lindy Point, which is the perfect spot for sunsets in the Fall.

Dolly Sods

Dolly Sods is a high-altitude plateau with beautiful panoramic overlooks and unique flora and fauna more expected in Canada then the Allegheny Mountains.

Bear Rocks Preserve

Bear Rocks Preserve is a well-known state landmark on the edge of the Dolly Sods that's a photo-op worth the journey.

Hiking and Mountain Biking

Check out any of the number of other hiking and mountain biking trails in the are.  Be sure to make a stop by Blackwater Bikes to get everything you need for day on the trails.

Horseback Riding

Local outfitters like Mountain Trail Rides  offer a variety of options for new or experienced riders to experience the valley from horseback.

Timberline

Timberline boasts a peak elevation of 4,268 feet, 200 inches of average annual snowfall and over 100 acres of skiable terrain.

Canaan Valley Resort

Canaan Valley Resort has long beginner and intermediate trails, modern lifts and a large snowmaking system.  With  limited skier traffic and short lift lines, the resort is known for being very family friendly and provides ski and snowboard schools. 

White Grass

With over 50km of maintained trails, White Grass is one of the premier cross country destinations in the Eastern US.

Blackwater Sled Run

Ride the conveyor belt lift to the top of the longest sled run on the east coast for all the fun of sledding with out the uphill trek.

Canaan Valley Resort

Designed by well-known course architect Geoff Cornish,  Canaan Valley Resort is considered one of the most challenging courses in the state and offers scenic views, rolling fairways, and fantastic greens. 

Minigolf

For fun the whole family can enjoy; Canaan Village Inn, Canaan Valley Resort, and Deerfield Restaurant each have courses. 

Disc Golf

No clubs - no problem! Try the newly extended 18-hole disc golf course at Blackwater State Park.

Rock Climbing

NRocks has rock climbing, zip lining, caving and the famous Via Ferrata or "iron way" for breathtaking hieghts and stunning scenery. 


Seneca Rocks offers climbing opportunities for a range of skill levels with instruction available.  You can also check out the Long Branch Guide Wall or Smoke Hole Canyon Guide Wall or stay closer to the ground at Tucker Boulder Park.

Water Adventures

Blackwater Outdoor Adventures also offers a variety of still and white water activities including tubing, kayaking and rafting. 

Looking for a different kind of game?

Hunting

Walk out the back door and into the National Wildlife Refuge - prime hunting grounds for white-tailed deer, black bear, wild turkey, small game and fowl, including the local specialty woodcock.

Fishing

The valley offers multiple great fishing locations.  For a truly memorable experience plan to come for the Camp Horseshoe Trout Derby - where the river is stocked special for young anglers to try their luck. 

Sporting Clays

At the Canaan Valley Resort sporting clay range the staff can provide everything you need including shotguns, shells and instruction.

Scenic Train Rides

For a truly unique experience hop aboard a vintage steam powered locomotive for a scenic tour on the Durbin and Greenbrier Valley Rail Road. 

Scenic Highways

The Highlands Scenic Highway rises to an elevation of over 4500ft and offers multiple scenic overlooks along the way.
